LIEUTENANT COMMANDER RYAN LEE MESKIMEN

Lieutenant Commander Meskimen is currently serving as Executive Officer, 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, California.

LCDR Meskimen was born in Sedalia, Missouri in August 1969.  A graduate of Bakersfield High School, Bakersfield California, he entered the Navy in November 1990 and attended recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois.  He served ten years as an Enlisted Operations Specialist aboard the USS Sentry (MCM-3), USS Guardian (MCM-6), USS Devastator (MCM-5) and Naval Recruiting District Nashville, Tennessee.  LCDR Meskimen earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in August 1999, a Master of Business Administration in May 2001 and Master of Healthcare Administration in December 2001 from Georgia State University.  He was commissioned a Lieutenant Junior Grade in May 2001 and attended Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, Rhode Island.  He reported to Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms, California in July 2001 where he served as the Head, Management Information Department.  He transferred to Naval Hospital Pensacola in January 2004.  As Head, Management Information Department, he was instrumental in maintaining critical, consistent communication during Hurricane Ivan in September 2004.  He transferred to 3d Medical Battalion, 3d Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa, Japan in June 2005.

While at 3d Medical Battalion, LCDR Meskimen was assigned as Company Commander, Charlie Company, Company Commander, H&S Company and Battalion Operations Officer.  He deployed in support of Cobra Gold 2006, Operation Ulchi Focus Lens 2006, KITP-07-02 and served as the Officer Conducting Exercise for 3d Medical Battalion 2006 Fall exercise. For this exercise, he planned and executed a five day event which deployed a Surgical Company, deployed and displaced a Shock Trauma Platoon and Forward Resuscitative Surgical System.  177 Navy and Marine personnel participated in the exercise including a two day comprehensive Marine Combat Skills Training evolution which generated simulated casualties.  These casualties were then treated and moved through the appropriate operational medical capability exercising the medical treatment and patient evacuation process. 

In the fall of 2008, LCDR Meskimen was assigned as a Global Support Augment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He served as the Chief of Transportation for the Security Assistance Office, Multi National Transition Command-Iraq.  His responsibilities included tracking, accountability and delivery of Foreign Military Sales equipment and supplies purchased by the country of Iraq.  He personally supervised the shipment, delivery, accountability and turnover of several high visibility contracts to include the Prime Minister of Iraq’s armored vehicles and over 500 other civilian and military vehicles and heavy equipment.  LCDR Meskimen departed for the Naval War College, College of Naval Command and Staff in Summer 2009.

Upon completion of Command and Staff in 2010, LCDR Meskimen was assigned to U.S. Marine Forces Command, Health Services Support as a staff Medical Planner.  LCDR Meskimen facilitated the deployment of over 400 Navy Personnel.  Those personnel deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, various theater security cooperation missions and exercises in support of Combatant Commanders Phase Zero theater security requirements and humanitarian assistance missions.  While at USMARFORCOM, LCDR Meskimen forward deployed to USMARCENT FWD in Bahrain and served as the G4, Medical Planner.  In this capacity, he supported five units in four countries focused on theater security and regional stability.  He reported to 1st Medical Battalion as the Executive Officer in July 2013. 

LCDR Meskimen’s personal awards and decorations include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four gold stars, Navy Good Conduct with bronze star, Iraq Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one silver star, Enlisted Surface Warfare Qualified Device and Fleet Marine Warfare Officer Qualified Device.

LCDR Meskimen is married to Johnna L. Meskimen (formerly Conn) of Smyrna, Tennessee and they have three daughters, Athena, Molly and Aubrey.
