MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- An operational contract support specialist Marine with Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, received the Expeditionary Contracting Professional of the Year Award Aug. 25, 2020, on Camp Pendleton, California.
Staff Sgt. Andrew J Collins Jr.’s earned the award for his accomplishments in expeditionary contracting support while serving as a contracting officer for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Crisis Response - Central Command in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
“I just did what I thought was best to support the Marines.” said Collins. “Because that's what our job is.”
Collins took the initiative ensuring SPMGTF-CR-CC deployed with the most up-to-date contract writing systems. In addition, he executed 27 contracting actions during his time at Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base, Kuwait, in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. These contracts totaled more than $1 million.
“These are the Marines and Sailors that make it happen day after day. Never craving the lime light, never looking to be the center of attention, but like oxygen, you know it when you don’t have it,” said Brig. Gen. Bobbi Shea.
Staff Sergeant Collin’s desire to lead and succeed resulted in sustained excellence, and significantly contributed to the overall success of the SPMAGTF-CR-CC 19.1.
