Lance Cpl. Douglas Coonen, a military policeman with Bravo Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 2, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), 21, from Goose Lake, Ill., was awarded the Purple Heart Medal at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, Jan. 29. Coonen suffered a grade-three concussion when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device during a combat logistics patrol in Helmand province.
