Captain Lybeck was born in Bellevue, Washington and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2007 after graduating from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law, Society, and Justice. Following completion of The Basic School and his military occupational specialty school, he reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 in Yuma, Arizona where he filled multiple billets: Incident Response Platoon Commander, Motor Transport Officer, Maintenance Management Officer, Logistics Officer, and Headquarters and Service Company Commander. During this period, he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan where he served as the Camp Commandant and Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Officer.
In 2011, Captain Lybeck transferred to the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California where he held three billets: Maintenance Management Officer, Food Service Officer, and Motor Transport Officer. After attending Expeditionary Warfare School from 2014-2015, he was assigned to Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Regiment located at Camp Pendleton, California. He served as the Logistics/S-4 Officer and deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Battalion Landing Team 2/4 and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and participated in several exercises in the U.S. Pacific Command region.
Captain Lybeck has graduated from the Expeditionary Warfare School (resident and non-resident) and the University of Southern California, receiving a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He is married to the former Deanna Cleland and they have three children together.
