SgtMaj Edwards Sergeant Major 1st Maintenance Battalion

Sergeant Major Auburne Edwards enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 7, 1996 and reported to recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation he reported to MCT where he was assigned the MOS of 3051, he then reported to Supply Warehouseman School in Albany, GA. In December 1996 Sergeant Major Edwards was assigned to 3d Supply Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan where he served as a driver in the shipping section for the Sassy Management Unit. In January 1998  Sergeant Major Edwards reported to 2d Supply Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as the Battalion Legal Chief. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in March 1998 and was assigned to Combat Service Support Detachment 69 where he participated in Humanitarian Operations in Nicaragua, South America. Upon completing his first enlistment, he then requested a lateral move to become a Unit Level Switch Board Operator. The request was approved and he attended school at MCAGCC 29 Palms, CA and graduated as the honor graduate. He then received orders to Communication Company, 2d FSSG, Camp Lejeune, NC. During his tour there he also served as the Group Color Sergeant. In October 2001, he reported to Drill Instructor School and upon graduation reported to Echo Company, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor training over 2,200 Marines. On 2 July 2003 he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was assigned As the Drill Master for 2d Recruit Training Battalion. In July 2005, he received orders to 1st Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC to serve as the Battalion Wire Chief. In December 2005 he deployed with the 22d MEU in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon return He attended the Communication Chiefs Course and was the Honor Graduate Upon completion of Communications Chief Course, he returned to his command and assumed the duties as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company. As the Company Gunnery Sergeant he was responsible for the accountability of the Company and ensuring that they were logistically ready for the next deployment. In January 2007, Sergeant Major Edwards was assigned to a Military Transition Team, deploying in support of OIF to work hand in hand with the Iraqi Army and provide them a better understanding of the Armed Forces and how to better serve their own country. Upon return from his second deployment he was given orders to report to Headquarters and Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, Okinawa, Japan to serve as the Regimental Wire Chief. In December 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, following his promotion; he was assigned as the H&S Company Gunnery Sergeant until December 2008 where he was assigned as the H&S Company First Sergeant. Sergeant Major Edwards was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant in March 2011 and received orders to the oldest post in the Marine Corps, 8th & I Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. where he served as the Bravo and Alpha Company First Sergeant.  In January 2014 Sergeant Major Edwards received orders to 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company were he became the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant.  In January 2016 he received orders to 1st Battalion 11th Marines were he served as the Headquarters Battery First Sergeant. He was selected for the rank of Sergeant Major in November 2016 and received order to 1st Maintenance Battalion.  Sergeant Major Edwards has been in the Marine Corps for 20 years. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
