Major Skidmore is from Lake Ridge, VA and a 2005 graduate of The Citadel where he earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice with a minor in International Military Affairs. Major Skidmore completed Officer Candidate Course - 190 (OCC) and was commissioned in December 2005. Following The Basic School, in June of 2006 he reported to Combat Engineer Officer Course. Upon graduating, 2ndLt Skidmore was assigned to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, as a Combat Engineer Platoon Commander in Bravo Company where he served to reconstitute the Battalion’s dry and wet-gap bridging capability.
In February 2008, 1stLt Skidmore deployed with 7th ESB in support of OIF 8.2 as the Battalion’s security detachment commander responsible for convoy & engineer site security as well as horizontal and demilitarization engineer operations.
1stLt Skidmore was temporarily assigned to I MEF Advisor Training Group, in September 2008, as the Executive Officer and Operations Officer of Border Transition Team (BTT) 4235, deploying along the Iraq-Syria border in support of OIF 9.1.
In September 2009, 1stLt Skidmore received orders to MWSS-373, 3d MAW as the Engineer Company Commander and was frocked to the rank of Captain. He deployed with the Squadron in September 2010 in support of OEF 10.2. While deployed Captain Skidmore’s company was responsible for all 3d MAW (FWD) engineering activities within Regional Command, Southwest including the construction of the FOB Delaram II Expeditionary Airfield. For their efforts on this deployment the Company was in receipt of the 2011 Engineer Company of the Year Award presented by the Marine Corps Engineer Association. Upon completion of the deployment Captain Skidmore additionally assumed command of the MWSS-373 Airfield Operations Company.
In July 2011, Captain Skidmore was selected as the Aide-de-Camp to the Assistant Wing Commander, 3d MAW and subsequently redeployed to Afghanistan as the Aide to the CG, 3d MAW (FWD) in support of OEF 12.1-13.1. While serving in this capacity Captain Skidmore accumulated 200 cumulative flight hours as an active crew member in CH-53E, CH-53D, MV-22, UH-1Z, and C-130 airframes.
In May 2013, Captain Skidmore executed orders to Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) where, in December 2014, he graduated with a Master’s of Science in Management with a concentration in Defense Systems Analysis. While at NPS, Captain Skidmore graduated from Marine Corps Command and Staff College (DEP), completed Naval War College JPME-1, became a Certified Fraud Examiner, and served on the student staff as the Operations Officer for the Thesis Research Working Group.
In January 2015, Captain Skidmore reported to Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC), Programs and Resources (P&R), Program Analysis & Evaluation (PA&E) Division, where he served as the lead program analyst for the Sustaining Program Evaluation Board (SUS PEB). In the spring of 2016, Major Skidmore was selected by the Marine Corps as a Fellows candidate to the MIT “Seminar XXI: Foreign Politics, International Relations and National Interest Program.”
In July 2017, Major Skidmore was selected as the Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commandant for Programs and Resources (DC, P&R).
In July 2018 Major Skidmore reported to Marine Corps University: Command and Staff College (CSC) during which he was selected for the “Gray Scholars” program and earned both a Master of Science in Military Studies (Distinguished Graduate) and a Graduate Certificate in Future Concept Development.
In July 2019 Major Skidmore reported to CLB-13 for duty as Battalion Operations Officer. During this time Major Skidmore graduated from the Marine Corps Logistics Operations Group: Intermediate MAGTF Logistics Operations Course and participated in Exercise NATIVE FURY 2020.
On 1 June 2020 Major Skidmore assumed his current assignment as the Executive Officer for Combat Logistics Battalion 13, Camp Pendleton, CA.
Major Skidmore’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Second Award), and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
