Welcome Aboard CLB-1

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a

difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem."

― Ronald Reagan

Greetings and welcome aboard CLB-1! As the Family Readiness Officer for CLB-1, it is my honor to be part of this unit, and to provide you with the tools and resources you need to succeed as a military family. The goal of the Family Readiness Program is to support Marines, Sailors, and their families during their time of service, whether they are on base, in the field, or deployed. As part of the command team, I aim to give you power through knowledge: encouraging you to become a strong military family that self-sufficient, resilient to change, and an active part of a supportive unit and community.

One of my main roles is to be your point of contact for all official command communication so that you have access to the information you need. Through our town hall meetings, unit events, and online communication, the command and I will keep families up to date on the activities and events happening in the unit. You can also stay on top of events and communication by accessing our unit sites such as Marine Online, eMarine, the official CLB-1 website, and our unit Facebook page.

Our Marines and Sailors are better able to achieve their mission if they know their families are self-sufficient when duty calls. I am here to support your self-sufficiency by providing education, training, and resource referral to address the challenges and uncertainties inherent to military life. There are many resources available to Marines and their families, both on and off base. For example, Marine Corps Family Team Building (MCFTB) has added expanded their programs to serve not only spouses, but also children and extended family members, through workshops that focus on relationships, communication, understanding Marine life, and coping with change. The command team is working on bringing these resources directly to you by hosting trainings and workshops, providing relevant and timely information, and making ourselves available to you when you need support or guidance.

Another important aspect of Family Readiness is creating and maintaining a strong sense of community within the unit, including among the families. In line with the Commanding Officer’s vision of Family Readiness, I aim to create spaces where Marines and families can come together, build camaraderie, and reinforce unit morale. Families that take care of each other can better take care of themselves in times of need. This is what community is for. And this is what the Family Readiness Program is here to facilitate.

Our Family Readiness volunteers also play an integral part in creating the bridge between the families and the unit. If you are interested in volunteering please contact me and we can discuss the role and need for volunteers. Whether you want a long term assignment or to just want to help with the next family day, there is always a need for dedicated volunteers!

We know that you have one of the toughest jobs in the military, and we appreciate everything you do to support your loved ones achieve their mission. I am honored for the opportunity to serve your family and I look forward to working with you.

Very respectfully,

Alan Reid
