Commanding Officer, 1st Landing Support Battalion
LtCol J. L. Peterson

Lieutenant Colonel Peterson is a native of Bismarck, North Dakota, and graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in Computer Science in May 2002.  He enlisted in the Delayed Entry Program as a Marine Corps Security Force Guard in May 1993.  In May 1994, he reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.

After graduating from the School of Infantry – West, as a Rifleman, Private First Class Peterson reported to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion in Chesapeake, Virginia.  In March 1995, Lance Corporal Peterson reported to Marine Detachment USS Constellation (CV-64) in San Diego, California.  In April 1997, Corporal Peterson reported to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, and served as a Squad Leader in Golf Company.  The battalion deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Sergeant Peterson was honorably discharged in May 1998.

In October 2003, he attended Officer Candidate School and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in December 2003.  Following the completion of The Basic School and the Logistics Officer Course, he reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer and Motor Transport Platoon Commander. 

In June 2008, Captain Peterson reported to Bravo Company, 4th Landing Support Battalion, where he served as the Inspector-Instructor.  In February 2012, he reported to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines, “Darkside” in Twentynine Palms, California, and served as the Battalion Logistics Officer.  In March 2013, Darkside deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In July 2014, Major Peterson reported to Tactical Training Exercise Control Group (TTECG).  While at TTECG, he served as the Motorized Operations Training Section Officer in Charge and Logistics Training Team Lead.  In July 2016, he reported to the Command and Staff College as a student.  In July 2017, he reported to the Command Element, 11th MEU, as the MEU Logistics Officer and deployed on WESTPAC 19-2. In February 2020, he reported to 1st Marine Logistics Group for duty as the Future Operations Officer.
