Major Sheik Faruk is a native of Queens Village, N.Y., and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina in 2002. After graduation, Private Faruk attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, and then reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for MOS training as a Heavy Equipment Operator. In November 2002, Private Faruk reported to the 7th Engineer Support Battalion and served as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Private Faruk deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom I in 2003 and then subsequently to Operation Iraqi Freedom II 2004. For his performance in OIF-II, he was combat meritoriously promoted to Corporal in May 2004. In 2006 Corporal Faruk was promoted to Sergeant and then exited the Marine Corps.
Major Faruk graduated from Park University and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2009 through the Officer Candidate Course. Upon completion of The Basic School and Engineer Officers Course, Second Lieutenant Faruk reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron-372, Camp Pendleton, California in 2010 and served as a Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer and as a Company Commander. In 2012, First Lieutenant Faruk was temporarily assigned I MEF G-7 and deployed as the Afghanistan Infrastructure Development Officer Camp Leather Neck, Afghanistan. In September 2012, he returned to MWSS-372 and assumed the duties as Engineer Operations Company Commander.
In March 2013, he was promoted to Captain and then reported to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California, where he served as the G-3 Future Operations Officer, Aide de Camp, and Headquarters Battalion Operations Officer. In 2014, Captain Faruk attended the Tactical MAGTF Integration course and the Intermediate MAGTF Logistics Operation Course.
In 2016, Captain Faruk was selected to attend resident Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia. After EWS, he was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California, and served as the Operations Officer. In August 2017, Captain Faruk was temporarily assigned to Task Force Spartan 18.1 and deployed to Al-Taqaddum, Iraq and served as the Training Advisor for Iraqi Security Forces. Upon returning in September 2018, Captain Faruk received orders to 1st Marine Division G-3, Camp Pendleton, CA, to serve as the Theatre Security Cooperation Officer and as the Naval Integration Officer. In March 2019, he was promoted to his current rank and then selected to attend Air Force Command Staff College.
In September of 2020, Major Faruk assumed his current role as Executive Officer for 7th Engineer Support Battalion.
Major Faruk holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Park University, Master of Business Administration from the University of Scranton and a Masters of Military Operational Art and Science. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat C device and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
