Sergeant Major Aaron R. Avila

Sergeant Major Avila was born in Riverside, California in 1984. After graduating high school at Paso Robles Adult High School in 2003, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in August of 2003.
Sergeant Major Avila completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California in November 2003.  Private Avila was transferred to the School of Infantry (SOI) at Camp Pendleton for Marine Combat Training (MCT).  Upon completion of SOI, Private Avila then attended the Marine Combat Engineer Course (MCES) at Courthouse Bay, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
While attending MCES Private Avila was promoted to the rank of Private First Class and upon graduating was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.  After completing MCES, Lance Corporal Avila executed orders to 3rd Combat Assault Battalion, Combat Engineer Company, Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan.
In April 2005, Lance Corporal Avila executed orders to 2nd Force Service Support Group (FSSG), Bridge Company, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Lance Corporal Avila deployed in support Operation Iraqi Freedom-IV in September 2005 and was later promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In January 2007, Corporal Avila reported to the Recon Indoctrination Platoon, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In March 2007, Corporal Avila completed Reconnaissance Indoctrination Platoon training and attended the Amphibious Reconnaissance School training located at Fort Story, Virginia and earned the MOS 0321 Reconnaissance Marine. After completing school, Corporal Avila returned to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion. While there he deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 6-8 and Operation Enduring Freedom in May 2009. During this time Corporal Avila served as an Assistant Radio Operator and a Team Leader and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
In March 2010, Sergeant Avila was transferred to the School of Infantry-West where he served as an instructor at the Basic Reconnaissance Course.  While there he served as a Tactical Instructor, Assistant Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Sergeant. In May 2011, Sergeant Avila was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In August 2013, Staff Sergeant Avila executed orders to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, Force Reconnaissance Company.  During this time Staff Sergeant Avila's Force Reconnaissance Platoon was integrated into Bravo Company, 2nd Platoon and was assigned the billet of Assistant Platoon Sergeant.  During this time, Staff Sergeant Avila was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and deployed in support of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit in June 2015.
Upon returning from deployment, Gunnery Sergeant Avila executed orders to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, Okinawa, Japan in June 2016. During this time Gunnery Sergeant Avila served as a Platoon Sergeant for Alpha Company, 2nd Platoon and participated in three joint-military exercises with countries from the Pacific Command area of operation.
In January 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Avila executed orders to II MEF Expeditionary Operations Training Group (EOTG) to serve as a Special Tactics Instructor.  In December 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Avila was selected to the rank of First Sergeant. 
In January 2019, First Sergeant Avila reported to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, Second Marine Division to assume the billet of Company First Sergeant, Company C. In February 2020, First Sergeant Avila deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program. In April 2021, First Sergeant Avila was transferred to Weapons Company. 

In June 2021, First Sergeant Avila reported to the School of Infantry-East where he served as Company First Sergeant at India Company, Lima Company, Headquarters and Service Company, and Bravo Company.  While at the School of Infantry-East, he served at Marine Combat Training Battalion, Headquarters and Support Battalion, and Infantry Training Battalion.  In October 2023, First Sergeant Avila was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major. 
 
In January of 2024 Sergeant Major Avila was promoted to his current rank and was appointed as the Sergeant Major of Combat Logistics Battalion 11.
 
Sergeant Major Avila holds a Master of Arts Degree in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.  Sergeant Major Avila's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ V (4th award), and the Combat Action ribbon (2nd award).
