Jonathan S. Sidhu was born in Euclid, Ohio on 1 October 1981. He graduated from Wickliffe High School in Wickliffe, Ohio in 2000. Jonathan Sidhu enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2005 and attended recruit training at India Company, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. Upon completion of recruit training in April 2005, Private First Class Sidhu attended Alpha Company, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry East. He was assigned the military occupational specialty 0341, Mortarman. Private First Class Sidhu reported to Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in August 2005. While a member of 3d Battalion, 3rd Marines, Private First Class Sidhu was promoted to Lance Corporal and served as a forward observer. In March 2006, Lance Corporal Sidhu was made a machine gunner in a mobile assault platoon and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lance Corporal Sidhu was promoted to Corporal in March 2007 and served as a mortar squad leader. Corporal Sidhu deployed again to Iraq in August 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was combat meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. In September 2008, he deployed as an individual augment with the U.S. Army Special Forces to the southern Philippines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom - Philippines. In April 2009, Sergeant Sidhu reported to the School of Infantry West, Marine Combat Instructor School. Upon completion, he reported to Alpha Company, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry West. While in Alpha Company, Sergeant Sidhu graduated as the student honor graduate from both the U.S. Army Mortar Leaders Course and the USMC Mortar Leaders Course. He then obtained the military occupational specialty of 8023 Basic Parachutist by completing Basic Airborne Course in Fort Benning, Georgia. Sergeant Sidhu was selected as the 2010 Infantry Training Battalion Combat Instructor of the Year and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in January 2011. Staff Sergeant Sidhu served as the 0341 Mortarman Course Chief in 2011 and in 2012 became the 0300 Infantry Common Skills course chief, overseeing the largest program of instruction in the School of Infantry. Staff Sergeant Sidhu reported to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines in June 2012 and was assigned to Weapons Platoon, Company G., where he served as the mortar section leader. In April 2013, Staff Sergeant Sidhu was assigned to 1st Platoon, Company G. as the Platoon Sergeant and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon his return, Staff Sergeant Sidhu was reassigned as the 4th Platoon, Platoon Sergeant and in November 2014 deployed on the Special Purpose MAGTF, Black Sea Rotational Force 14.1. While on deployment, in April 2015, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. From October 2015 to June 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Sidhu was assigned to Inspector-Instructor duty in Minneapolis, Minnesota with Marine Wing Support Squadron 471 where he served as the Squadron Operations Chief and Air Base Ground Defense SNCOIC. In June 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Sidhu reported to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines where he was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company and
assumed the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant. In January 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Sidhu was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and assumed the billet of Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant. In April 2019 First Sergeant Sidhu deployed to the Central Command Area of Operations on the SPMAGTF-CR-CC 19.2 rotation. First Sergeant Sidhu then assumed the billet of Suicide Charley Company First Sergeant in February 2020 and deployed to Australia in support of the Marine Rotational Force-Darwin 21.2 rotation. From March 2022 to March 2023 First Sergeant Sidhu was assigned to Marine Air Support Squadron 3 and performed Unit Senior Enlisted Leader duties for Air Support Company, Air Control Company A, and Tactical Data Systems Company. On 31 March 2023 First Sergeant Sidhu was frocked to Sergeant Major and assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 502 on board Marine Corps Air Station
Miramar, California. In April 2025 Sergeant Major Sidhu reported to 1st Distribution Support Battalion where he currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Sidhu has a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Kent State University, and his personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star in lieu of 2nd award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of 4th award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star in lieu of 2nd award, and the Basic Parachutist Badge.
