Commanding Officer, 1st Dental Battalion
Captain Jared A. Geller

A native of Brookline, Massachusetts, CAPT Geller graduated from Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2002, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2007. He completed residency training at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in 2009, earning a certificate in Comprehensive Dentistry from the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and a Master of Science degree in Oral Health Sciences from The George Washington University. From 2009 through 2011, CAPT Geller was stationed onboard USS Enterprise (CVN-65). 

While serving as the Dental Department’s Division Officer, he deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn in the Fifth and Sixth Fleet areas of responsibility. Following his shipboard assignment, CAPT Geller was stationed at Naval Health Clinic New England in Newport, Rhode Island from 2011-2014 and at Naval Branch Health Clinic Portsmouth, New Hampshire from 2014-2016. During these tours, he was elected Vice Chair of the Medical Executive Committee and Vice President of the Medical Staff, and served as Head of the Dental and Ancillary Services Departments.

CAPT Geller returned to Naval Postgraduate Dental School in 2016 as Program Director for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency, Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University, and President of the Naval Postgraduate Dental School Faculty Forum. From 2019-2020 he served on the Presidential Dental Support Team and as Department Chief of the Primary Care Dentistry clinic at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. In 2020, CAPT Geller was assigned to Navy Personnel Command as Dental Corps Detailer, where he mentored a diverse community of general dentists and supported a variety of Navy Medicine selection boards.

As Executive Officer of 3d Dental Battalion in Okinawa, Japan, CAPT Geller managed daily operations to meet strategic objectives, provided combat ready medical and dental support to III Marine Expeditionary Forces, and was responsible for the performance and conduct of personnel at eight geographically dispersed dental treatment facilities across Japan and Hawaii. CAPT Geller is board certified by the American Board of General Dentistry and maintains professional membership in the American Dental Association, American Board of General Dentistry, and Academy of General Dentistry, where he served as Secretary, Treasurer, President-elect, President and Voting Delegate for the Navy Constituency of the Federal Services Region.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer (Dental) qualification, and the Fleet Marine Force Warfare Officer qualification.
