A native of Kendall, WI Captain Joseph Reardon attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a Bachelor of Science degree. He was accepted to The Ohio State University College of Dentistry where in 2008 he received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.
In June 2008 after receiving a commission via the Health Professions Scholarship Program Lieutenant Reardon reported to Officer Development School Newport, RI. Upon graduation he reported to National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, MD completing a General Practice Residency in 2009. He then transferred to Norfolk, VA and was assigned Health Services Department Head and Senior Dental Officer aboard USS CARTER HALL (LSD50).
He participated in a nine-month 5th Fleet Deployment during Arab Spring and the 2010 Haitian earthquake disaster relief mission. In 2011 Lieutenant Reardon reported to Naval Branch Health Clinic Bahrain as Assistant Dental Officer earning 2012 Junior Officer of the Year. Earning acceptance to outservice Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training, Lieutenant Reardon trained at the University of Rochester Medical Center Rochester, NY graduating in 2017.
In 2017, Lieutenant Commander Reardon reported aboard USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN74) where he was Departmental Principal Assistant and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Upon completion of a seven-month around the world deployment, Lieutenant Commander Reardon transferred to Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), CA. At NMCSD he served as Dental Department Head of Branch Dental Clinic Naval Base San Diego (32nd St), the largest Navy Dental Clinic on the West Coast and Interim Officer in Charge of Naval Medical Readiness and Training Unit Naval Base San Diego, Eastlake Clinic, and Regional Area Dental Laboratory.
In 2021, filling a hotfill billet, Commander Reardon transferred to USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN72) as the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Upon completion of the seven-month Western Pacific deployment, Commander Reardon reported to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit (NMRTU) Bahrain as Officer in Charge of the only Military Treatment Facility in the dynamic US FIFTH Fleet.
In 2024, Captain Reardon was assigned Executive Officer at 1st Dental Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA charged with the supervision of 180 active duty for the operational dental readiness of I Marine Expeditionary Force.
Captain Reardon maintains board certification in the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Decorations as a result of being surrounded by incredible shipmates include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer Designation (SWMDO), and various campaign, unit, and service awards.
