Command Senior Chief, 1st Dental Battalion
Command Senior Chief James S. Dy

He is a native of Manila, Philippines and entered the Delayed Entry Program January 2003, and later reported to Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL in October 2003. Following Basic Recruit Training, he completed Aviation Storekeeper “A” School in Meridian, MS in December 2003.  After graduating, he reported in September to his first duty station, Strike Fighter Squadron Eight Two (VFA -82), homeport Beaufort, SC.

Follow on duty assignments include: Strike Fighter Squadron Eight One (VFA-81) where he was Financial Manager and Night Check Supervisor; Strike Fighter Squadron Two One Three (VFA-213), where he was Work Center Supervisor and also volunteered as an Individual Augmentee in Provincial Reconstruction Team at Kunar Province, Afghanistan.

Follow on shore tour at Defense Logistics Agency Norfolk, he held the position of DLR Manager and Warehouse Supervisor.  In November 2012, LS1 Dy reported to USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) as S-8 and S-6 Leading Petty Officer and got promoted to Chief Logistics Specialist in September 2015.

In July 2016, Chief Dy reported to his next duty station, SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic (SSCLANT) as R-Supply LCPO and in July 2019, he took follow on orders to USS Germantown (LSD-42), where served as S-1 Division Leading Chief Petty Officer, he then reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Two Three (HSC-23), served as Material Control Leading Chief Petty Officer and advanced to Senior Chief.

In September 2022, Senior Chief Dy reported to Beachmaster Unit ONE (BMU-1) and served as the N4 Department Head. He was then selected for the Command Senior Chief program in April 2025.

Senior Chief Dy is a graduate of both Senior Enlisted Academy Class 255 and the Command Master Chief course. His awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars), Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five gold stars), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (five bronze stars), Overseas Service Deployment Ribbon as well as Afghanistan Campaign Medal and various other personal and unit awards.  His warfare qualifications include Enlisted Air Warfare, Surface Warfare and Information Warfare.  He completed an Associate’s Degree in Business, Logistics Management and Human Resources.

Senior Chief James Dy is currently serving as Command Senior Chief of 1st Dental Battalion in Camp Pendleton, California.
