Commanding Officer, 1st Distribution Support Battalion
Lieutenant Colonel Nick Harwood

Nick Harwood, a native of Harwich, Massachusetts, graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronuatical University and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 2007.  Upon completion of The Basic School and Logistics Officer Course, Second Lieutenant Harwood was assigned to 3d Marine Regiment, Kaneohe Bay, HI as the Regimental Motor Transport Officer. 

In August 2008, Second Lieutenant Harwood was reassigned to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines as the Motor Transport Officer. He deployed to Al Anbar Province in April 2009 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 9.1. He served concurrently as the Battalion Safety Officer and the Assistant Battalion Electronic Warfare Officer. Following redeployment, he served as the battalion Assistant Logistics Officer. In May 2010, he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 10.1 and served as the Battalion Motor Transport Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer.

In March 2011, Captain Harwood was assigned to Recruiting Station Richmond, 4th Marine Corps District, as the Officer Selection Officer for Roanoke, Virginia.  Captain Harwood was selected to attend resident Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA and after graduating from EWS in May 2015 he proceeded to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS)-373 in San Diego, CA. Upon arrival he assumed command of Motor Transportation Company.

In November, Captain Harwood was reassigned as the Bravo Company Commander for MWSS-373.  He deployed to Bahrain in April 2016 with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response, Central Command (SPMAGTF-CR-CC) in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE 16.2. Captain Harwood commanded an Aviation Ground Support Company in direct support of a fixed-wing F/A 18 squadron.  Following redeployment, he again served as the Motor Transportation Company Commander. 

In May 2017, Major Harwood assumed the duties as the Western Recruiting Region Assistant for Officer Procurement, managing all the Officer recruiting in the United States, west of the Mississippi River. In August 2019, Major Harwood was selected to attend resident College of Naval Command and Staff at the Naval War College in Newport, RI. 

In June 2020, upon graduation from the Naval War College, Major Harwood was assigned to 1st Maintenance Battalion and served as both the Battalion Operations Officer and the Battalion Executive Officer. In December 2021, Major Harwood was reassigned to 1st Marine Logistics Group (MLG) G-4 and served as the Sustainment Officer in Charge and then Deputy AC/S G-4.

From July 2023 until July 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Harwood was assigned as the Logistics Operations Branch Head in the Logistics Directorate for Marine Forces Central Command (MARCENT) aboard MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. Lieutenant Colonel Harwood returned to 1st MLG in July 2025 to serve as the Deputy AC/S G-4 until January 2026.    

Lieutenant Colonel Harwood received his undergraduate degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2007 with a B.S. in Air Traffic Management. In 2017, he earned a M.A. in Leadership Studies from Marshall University and in 2020 he earned a Master of Strategic Studies Degree with distinction from the Naval War College. His military education includes Expeditionary Warfare School (resident), Command Staff College (non-resident), Naval War College (resident), and Air War College (non-resident).

Lieutenant Colonel Harwood’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of fourth award and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award. He is the 2010 recipient of the Motor Transport Officer of the Marine Corps award.
