Sergeant Major Erick R. Richburg

Sergeant Major Richburg is a native of Washington, DC. He completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, on 17 November 2000. Following graduation, Private First Class Richburg attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, and subsequently completed the Enlisted Basic Warehousing Course at Camp Johnson, North Carolina, where his performance earned him a meritorious promotion to Lance Corporal.

In March 2001, Lance Corporal Richburg reported to Ordnance Maintenance Company, 3D Material Readiness Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan, serving as a basic warehouseman. During his tour, he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Essex in support of humanitarian operations in East Timor, Thailand, and the Philippines. Promoted to Corporal in April 2002, he reported to Marine Forces Atlantic (MARFORLANT), Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as a Warehouse and Receiving NCO before being selected as the driver for the Commanding General of MARFORLANT from August 2002 to December 2003.

In December 2003, Corporal Richburg reported to Company “B”, 2D Amphibious Battalion, 2D Marine Division, serving as the Supply Chief. He was promoted to Sergeant on 1 February 2004. In February 2005 and again in September 2006, Sergeant Richburg deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), serving as both Supply Chief and Warehouse Chief during combat operations.

In July 2007, Sergeant Richburg received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC, for Drill Instructor School, Class 4-07. Upon graduation, he served as Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor for Company “M,” and subsequently as Chief Drill Instructor for Company “L”, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment. His exemplary performance resulted in a meritorious promotion to Staff Sergeant in 2009.

In October 2010, Staff Sergeant Richburg reported to The Basic School, Training and Education Command, Quantico, Virginia, where he served as the Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant, Supply Chief, and Warehouse Chief. In May 2013, he transferred to Officer Candidate School to augment as a Sergeant Instructor, further broadening his contributions across the Marine Corps training establishment.

In October 2013, Staff Sergeant Richburg reported to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, serving as the Station Marine Corps Property Warehouse Chief and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant on 1 October 2014. In November 2015, Gunnery Sergeant Richburg returned to Camp Lejeune and reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 25, where he served as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant. Upon selection to First Sergeant, he reported to the School of Infantry East in April 2018, serving as Company First Sergeant within Company “B”, Infantry Training Battalion, and Company “M”, Headquarters and Support Battalion.

In February 2020, First Sergeant Richburg received orders to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines, assigned as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant before transferring to Weapons Company in April 2020. He subsequently forward deployed with the Battalion to Okinawa, Japan, from October 2020 to May 2021. In August 2021, First Sergeant Richburg reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 in Okinawa, Japan, where he continued to serve with distinction before assuming his present rank in March 2022.

Upon promotion to Sergeant Major, he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of 3d Intelligence Battalion until April 2025, at which time he reported to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1 as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. In May 2026, Sergeant Major Richburg assumed his present role as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Combat Logistics Regiment 1.

Sergeant Major Richburg’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Silver Star in lieu of sixth award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two Gold Stars in lieu of third award.
