Commanding Officer 7th Engineer Support Battalion
Lieutenant Colonel Melina Mesta

Lieutenant Colonel Mesta graduated from the University of North Texas in 2001 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management.   

 

She was commissioned in 2003 and attended the Combat Engineer Basic Officer Course, Courthouse Bay, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in 2004.

As a Lieutenant, she served as Platoon Commander, Company C, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, and Executive Officer, Engineer Support Company, 6th Engineer Support Battalion (FWD) where she deployed twice in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.

As a Captain, she served as an instructor and Assistant Operations Officer at The Basic School, and a Company Commander at Marine Wing Support Squadron 372.

In 2015, Major Mesta deployed on a WESTPAC with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit where she served as the Operations Officer at Combat Logistics Battalion 11. She was subsequently assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps and recently completed a Joint assignment at U.S. Southern Command.

In 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Mesta took command of 7th Engineer Support Battalion where she is currently serving as the Commanding Officer.

Lieutenant Colonel Mesta holds a Master of Public Administration from Webster University. Her formal military education includes the U.S. Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program, U.S. Army Engineer Captains Career Course, U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff Distance Education Program, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer Course at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation.

Her personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star.
