Sergeant Major Garcia enlisted in the Marine Corps on 28 May 2001 and attended recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation from Recruit Training, Private Garcia reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, North Carolina, and earned the primary MOS of 0331 (Infantry Machine Gunner).
In October of 2001, Private Garcia reported to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he deployed to Okinawa, Japan. In March of 2004, Corporal Garcia deployed on the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In May of 2005, Sergeant Garcia was assigned to Recruiting Station San Antonio, Sub Station Austin South. Sergeant Garcia was selected as the Recruiting Station Recruiter of the Year for 2006 and 2007. In January 2007, Sergeant Garcia was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant.
In March of 2009, Staff Sergeant Garcia was assigned to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines, Weapons Company. In October of 2009, Staff Sergeant Garcia deployed in support of OEF to Helmand Providence, Afghanistan.
In August of 2010, Staff Sergeant Garcia deployed with 2d Battalion, 6th Marines, Fox Company in support of OEF in Helmand Providence, Afghanistan. In January of 2011, Staff Sergeant was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.
In March of 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Garcia was assigned to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines, Weapons Company, where he deployed with the 22nd MEU in support of Unified Protector.
In July of 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Garcia received orders to Marine Corps Combat Instructor School, School of Infantry West. In April of 2015, Gunnery Sergeant Garcia was promoted to First Sergeant.
In April of 2015, First Sergeant Garcia received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 7, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, MCAGCC Twenty-Nine Palms, California.
In December 2016, First Sergeant Garcia was selected as the Director of the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, MCAGCC Twenty-Nine Palms, California.
In February 2020, Sergeant Major Garcia assumed the duties as the Squadron Sergeant Major for VMU-3, MAG-24, 1st MAW.
In January 2022, Sergeant Major Garcia assumed the duties as the Squadron Sergeant Major for VMM-268, MAG-24, 1st MAW and deployed to Australia as the Aviation Combat Element Sergeant Major of Marine Rotational Force Darwin.
In Jun 2023, Sergeant Major Garcia assumed the duties as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 7th Engineer Support Battalion.
Sergeant Major Garcia has a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management. A Master’s of Science in Leadership and a Master’s of Science in Homeland Security with a concentration in Emergency and Disaster Management. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two gold stars in lieu of third award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (one gold star in lieu of second award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three gold stars in lieu of fourth award), Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (four gold stars in lieu of fifth award).
Sergeant Major Garcia has been married to his wife, Jeanette for 18 years. They have two sons, Jonathon Garcia and Anthony Garcia.
