Major Martin was born in Fullerton, California and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in November 2002. Upon completion of recruit training and MOS school, he reported to Fourth Medical Battalion, Fourth Force Service Support Group (FSSG), Miramar, California. During his tour, he participated in the Joint Training Exercise, Battle Griffin, Norway. In January 2007, Major Martin graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a BA degree in Political Science and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant through the Platoon Leaders Course.
After completing The Basic School in 2007, and upon completion attended the Combat Engineer Officer’s Course in 2008, Second Lieutenant Martin reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion (1st CEB), 1st Marine Division and was assigned as the battalion’s Intelligence Officer and Assistant Security Manager. From May to November 2009, First Lieutenant Martin deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Helmand Province, serving as the Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) Alternate Compensatory Control Measure (ACCM) Officer for II Marine Expeditionary Brigade. After returning from Afghanistan, he was reassigned as a Route Clearance Platoon Commander with Mobility Assault Company, and again deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF from October 2010 to May 2011.
In July 2011, Captain Martin reported to Company H, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Parris Island, South Carolina for duty as a Series Commander. In August 2012, he assumed the duties as the Company Executive Officer for Company F, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, and in May 2013, he assumed command of Company H, 2d Recruit Training Battalion. Additionally, Captain Martin graduated from Non-Resident Expeditionary Warfare School in May 2013, and earned a MA degree in Management and Leadership in May 2014.
In July 2014, Captain Martin reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 (MWSS-172), Marine Aircraft Group 36 (MAG-36), 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (1st MAW), Okinawa, Japan for duty as the Squadron Engineer and Commanding Officer, Engineer Company. While in this capacity, he participated in Exercise Balikatan 15’, Philippines, and graduated from Weapons and Tactics Instructors (WTI) course. Upon relinquishing command of Engineer Company, Captain Martin assumed the duties as the squadron’s Operations Officer.
In October 2015, Captain Martin reported to the G-4/Aviation Ground Support Department (AGSD), Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1 (MWHS-1), 1st MAW, for duty as the AGSD OIC and Wing Engineer where he immediately deployed to support the planning efforts and later execution of Exercise Cobra Gold 16’, Thailand. During this time, Captain Martin graduated from Non-Resident Command and Staff College and the Joint Engineer Operations Course.
In December 2016, Captain Martin was selected to the Congressional Fellowship Program through the Commandant’s Professional Intermediate - Level Education Board, was subsequently was promoted to Major, and reported to the Office of Legislative Affairs, HQMC in September 2017. In January 2018, he was assigned to serve as a Congressional Fellow for Congressman K. Michael Conaway of Texas, 11th District during the 115th Congress, Second Session. In this capacity, Major Martin assisted Congressman Conaway in all Defense, Veteran, and Foreign Affairs related matters.
In January 2019, Major Martin completed his Fellowship on Capitol Hill and was assigned to the Deputy Commandant, Installations and Logistics to serve as the Staff Secretary and Legislative Liaison.
In May 2020, Major Martin reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 15 for assignment as the Executive Officer.
Major Martin’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal and (1) Gold Star in lieu of second award, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device and (1) Gold Star in lieu of second award, Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal with (1) Gold Star in lieu of second award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
