CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – 1st Landing Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, activated, October 15, 2020.

The purpose of this activation is to change the structure of the force and ensure our capabilities are operationally relevant now and into the future.

1st LSB’s roots extend to the activation of 1stt Pioneer Battalion on 7 February 1942, participating in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. Re-designated as the 1st Shore Party Battalion on 1 October 1949, the battalion participated in actions during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Re-designated again as the 1stt Landing Support Battalion, the unit participated in major operations, including Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Provide Comfort, Iraq, and Operation Restore Hope, Somalia, 1st LSB was de-activated in 1998.

“To the future Marines and Sailors of LSB, what an honor it will be to walk and serve with you as we form this battalion,” said Lt. Col. Peterson, commanding officer of 1st LSB. Peterson later added, “I’m really looking forward to bringing back the legacy of Landing Support Battalion.”

The activation of 1st LSB provides 1st MLG added landing support and distribution capabilities, enhancing the expeditionary maneuver warfare vision for the future. 1stt LSB will be able to support our naval expeditionary force with capabilities such as aerial resupply via helicopter support teams, parachute drops, port operations, beach operations, and rail operations as the main efforts.

Consolidation and reallocation of capabilities under one LSB commander allows for training that is more efficient. Smaller, task-organized elements of landing support and aerial delivery also provide a more effective model of force generation because of consolidated training and equipment, as well as operating standardization.
