Tarrell Giersch, the SMU's operation officer, and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Michael Naputi, the SMU's systems officer, accept the Supply-Chain Excellence in Supply-Chain Operations and Management award for the unit at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif., April 5, 2005. The Supply-Chain Council, a civilian organization comprised of many of the leading industrial companies, logistics and distribution companies, and supply-chain application software companies, presents the award to the Department of Defense organization that operates significant components of a supply chain and has demonstrated excellence in design, operation or improvement. the SMU served as a supply center for the I Marine Expeditionary Force and its 30,000 Marines in Iraq.
