U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Stephen Holt/Released 060719-m-0293h-002.jpg
Jan 19, 2006
Lance Cpl. Allan D. Donaire, a 20-year-old native of Linden, N.J., assigned to the Personnel Retrieval and Processing detachment at Camp Taqaddum, Iraq, pauses to remember a fallen service member July 19, 2006. Hanging in the background is the American flag that seems to guard the personnel working there, similar to how a flag protects the casket of a fallen American hero. The mission of PRP is to inventory the personal effects, identify the types of wounds sustained, and prepare the remains of service members killed in the Al Anbar province for transportation to Dover Air Force Base. The detachment is comprised of mostly reserve Marines from a variety of military occupations.
