Cpl. Nicholas H. Ludke, a combat engineer with Charlie Company, CLB-2, 1st MLG (FWD), fills a Hesco barrier while helping build Patrol Base Demazong in Helmand province, Afghanistan, Oct. 18. Ludke, 22, from Warren, Mich., suffered a grade-three concussion from an improvised explosive device blast, Sept. 16, but fully recovered and returned to his unit within a month and joined them on the next mission to build PB Demazong.
