U.S. Marines attached to Joint Task Force Civil Support participate in cleanup efforts after the Las Angeles wildfires in Altadena, California, Feb. 22, 2025. At the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) deployed approximately 170 active-duty personnel to assist Environmental Protection Agency led teams with cleanup of wildfire hazardous waste from the Eaton and Palisades fires in California. U.S. Army North, U.S. Northern Command’s Joint Force Land Component Command, is overseeing the military’s support to federal and state efforts while JTF-CS is providing on-the-ground command and control of active-duty personnel. U.S. Navy Lt. James Brock, chaplain for Combat Logistics Battalion 13, Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group and a native of Englewood, Tennessee, holds the distinction of being the oldest non-Catholic chaplain to have commission in the U.S. on July 1, 2022, at the age of 57. As the chaplain for Koa Moana 24, Brock has exercised his 36 years of ministry experience, being the guiding light for the Marines and Sailors and the catalyst behind the mission’s success. In the challenging and fast-paced forward-deployed environment, he emphasizes the importance of spiritual fitness as a crucial component of overall well-being. Marine Corps Engineer Detachment Palau 24.1 comprised of U.S. Marines and Sailors from 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, under the operational control of the 30th Naval Construction Regiment, successfully restored the Peleliu airstrip in the month of June. U.S. Marine Corps pilots from Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 (VMGR-152) with 1st Marine Aircraft Wing landed a KC-130J Super Hercules on the newly recertified airstrip on the island of Peleliu, Republic of Palau, June 22, 2024. The airstrip was recertified and the landing was facilitated by U.S. Airmen from the 36th Contingency Response Squadron.
