Colonel Michael W. Stehle

Colonel Michael W. Stehle is currently serving as the Chief of Staff, 1st Marine Logistics Group.

Colonel Michael W. Stehle was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from the University of San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 1996.

 

In June 1997, after completing The Basic School and the Logistics Officer School at NAB Little Creek, VA, Second Lieutenant Stehle was assigned to 1st Landing Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, CA. During this tour, he served as a Platoon Commander, Beach and Terminal Operations Company.  In September 1998, First Lieutenant Stehle was assigned as the Assistant Logistics/Embark Officer for MEU Service Support Group-11. He deployed with the 11th MEU for WESTPAC-99 from June 1999 to December 1999.

 

In March 2000, First Lieutenant Stehle reported to Marine Barracks, Washington DC. He served as a Project Officer, Marine Corps Institute and then as a Platoon Commander and Executive Officer, Company B followed by an assignment as the Assistant Logistics Officer, Marine Barracks Washington DC.   

 

In July 2003, Captain Stehle reported to 3d Battalion, 1st Marines as the Battalion Logistics Officer. He deployed with 3d Battalion, 1st Marines to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM II from June 2004 to January 2005 in the Al Anbar Province.

 

In May 2005, Captain Stehle was ordered to Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division as the Company Commander. He then deployed with Truck Company to Al Anbar Province, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from January 2006 to January 2007. During this deployment, he was promoted to the rank of Major and was subsequently assigned to the Multi-National Forces West G-4 as the Assistant Operations Officer.  

 

In June 2007, Major Stehle assumed command of Recruiting Station Orange, Orange County, CA 12th Marine Corps District until June 2010.

 

In June 2010, he attended the College of Naval Command and Staff, Naval War College, Newport, RI and graduated with a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.  Lieutenant Colonel Stehle assumed his duties as the Commanding Officer, Combat Logistics Battalion-1 from December 2011 to June 2013. The Battalion deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in direct support of Regimental Combat Team 5 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from December 2011 to May 2012.  In July 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Stehle reported to the US Army War College and graduated with a Masters in Strategic Studies in June 2014.

 

Lieutenant Colonel Stehle was then assigned to Joint duty as the Deputy Chief, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command/United States Forces Korea Commander’s Initiatives Group from July 2014 to July 2016. He then transferred to Marine Forces Korea for duty as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4 from July 2016 to July 2017. From July 2017 to June 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Stehle served as the I MEF G-4 Operations Officer.  From June 2018 to June 2019, Col Stehle served as the 1st Marine Logistics Group Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4.  Colonel Stehle took command of Combat Logistics Regiment 1 on June 2019 to June 2021. From June 2021 to June 2022 Col Stehle served as the Chief of Staff, 1st Marine Logistics Group and July 2022 to June 2023 as the Chief of Staff, TF 51/5. Col Stehle assumed his current duties as the Director of Operations in June 2023.
