Sergeant Major J.M. Gibson

       Sergeant Major Gibson is a native of Miami, Florida.  She enlisted in the Marine Corps on 27 August 2002.   Upon completion of recruit training, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina in November 2002, Private Gibson was assigned to Marine Combat Training, Camp Lejeune, North.  After completing MCT in December 2002 Private Gibson assigned the MOS of 0451 Air Delivery Specialist and reported to Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia, and then to Parachute Rigger School in Fort Lee, Virginia. After graduating from her MOS school in May 2003, Private Gibson was assigned to 2nd Transportation Support Battalion, 2nd FSSG, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where she performed duties as an Air Delivery Specialist.  While assigned to 2nd Air Delivery Platoon, she was promoted to the rank of Corporal and served as Joint Air Drop Inspector, and Static-Line Jumpmaster.

 

In February 2005, Corporal Gibson was attached to Combat Logistics Battalion-2 and deployed to Al Asad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III.  Upon return from deployment, she was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant and served as the Platoon Sergeant for 2nd Air Delivery Platoon, Landing Support Company.

 

In October 2006, Sergeant Gibson was assigned to Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Lee, Virginia where she performed duties as an Instructor for the Quartermaster Center and School Parachute Rigger Course, training Marines and Soldiers in the maintenance of aerial delivery equipment.  In July 2008, Sergeant Gibson attended the High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) Course in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, becoming the first Female Marine to become HALO certified.  While at the Marine Corps Detachment, she also served as an Instructor for the Military Freefall Ram-Air pack certification Course.

 

In January 2010, Staff Sergeant Gibson was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where she performed duties as the Air Delivery Chief for 2nd Air Delivery Platoon, Landing Support Company.

 

In March 2011, Staff Sergeant Gibson was deployed in support of Combat Logistics Battalion 22, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Landing Support Staff Non-Commissioned Officer-In-Charge, and the Air Delivery Chief.  Upon completion of the deployment in February 2012, Staff Sergeant Gibson returned to her duties with 2nd Air Delivery. In March 2013, Staff Sergeant Gibson deployed in support of SP-MAGTF, Black Sea Rotational Force 13, performing duties as the Air Delivery Operations Chief for 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines.

 

In February 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Gibson reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 22, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit where she deployed, performing her duties as the Air Delivery Operations Chief and the Landing Force Shore Party Staff Non-Commissioned Officer-In-Charge.

 

In July 2015, Gunnery Sergeant Gibson reported to 1st Transportation Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group where she performed duties as Air Delivery Chief for 1st Air Delivery Platoon.  During her tour with 1st TSB, she deployed in support of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

 

In February 2018, First Sergeant Gibson reported to Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West where she performed her duties as Company First Sergeant, Company G.

 

In July 2021, First Sergeant Gibson reported to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division where she performed her duties as the Battery First Sergeant for Battery R, and Headquarters Battery.

 

In November 2022, Sergeant Major Gibson received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion-1, where she currently serves as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

 

Sergeant Major Gibson’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.
