MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Marines with 1st Marine Logistics Group received personal and unit awards during a 1st MLG quarterly awards ceremony on Camp Pendleton, California, June 15, 2021.

“Folks like this, who we are going to get the chance to talk about, award, and recognize today are the type of people we are trying to keep around,” said Brig. Gen. Phillip N. Frietze, commanding general, 1st Marine Logistics Group. “They are the future you.”

The Marines awarded at the ceremony included:

Lance Cpl. Alex M. Avery received the Marine of the Quarter Award for inspiring team leaders by leading 200 inventories, 45 preventative maintenance checks, and 40 corrective maintenance actions. Avery also participated in Operation Turning Point 2021, assisting in the drilling of a 700 foot well in direct support of the United States Navy.

Hospital Corpsman First Class, Fleet Marine Force, Jonathan D. Ventura received the Senior Sailor of the Quarter Award for serving as the leading petty officer, battalion aid station, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force from January 2021 to March 2021. During this period, he led and mentored 12 sailors in daily garrison and operational care for 1,400 Marines in the largest independent battalion within the 1st MLG. Direct sailor mentorship led to one meritorious advancement and an awarded Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He selflessly facilitating eight enlisted Fleet Marine Force warfare specialist study sections which resulted in seven FMF worker qualifications.

Hospital Corpsman Second Class, Fleet Marine Force, Lorraine M. Scott received the Junior Sailor of the Quarter Award for serving as executive assistant to the Command Master Chief, Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group from January 2021 to March 2021. During this period, she deployed in support of U.S. Army Northern Command, National Corona Virus Disease 19 Vaccination Efforts, and led 11 corpsmen to accomplishing the vaccinations of 105,000 civilians throughout Arlington, Texas. She also kept daily tracking of 3,000 vaccinated individuals and served as Spanish translator.

Hospitalman Michael W. Baker received the Bluejacket of the Quarter Award for serving as dental technician, 13 Area Dental Clinic, 1st Dental Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group from January 2021 to March 2021. During this period, he assisted five providers in the completion of seventy dental procedures valued at $5,000. His efforts greatly contributed to the clinic sustainment of operational dental readiness in support of 5,000 Marines and Sailors across 17 tenet commands. He was also responsible for the management of a $66,000 operating target, 400 line items, upkeep of equipment worth $1.5 million and 38 critical supplies for the largest dental clinic on Camp Pendleton.

Marines also awarded, but not present at the ceremony included:

1st MLG Expeditionary Contracting Professionals of the Year, Team Award, for Fiscal Year 2020.

Sgt. Daniel G. Laskowski received the Marine Corps Ground Ordinance Maintenance Association Program Award 2020 Maintenance NCO of the Year.

Cpl. Carino D. Ochoalopez received Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter Award.
