Sergeant James Smith, a combat engineer with Alpha Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, operates a Foster-Miller TALON robot while it handles a dummy round aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., Sept. 12, 2013. The robots are used for different tasks, such as identifying objects from far distances, placing charges to blow up improvised explosive devices in place, and handling smaller objects with precision.
