Anthony Lucero (right), 20, radio operator, LS Co., CLR-17, 1st MLG, sprint to the finish line during the final moments of a land navigation course aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif. Feb. 28, 2014. Land nav. is an invaluable skill set and forms one of the core competencies of a leader. The purpose of the course is to establish individual confidence and proficiency in tasks associated with land nav. Each Marine was issued a compass, protractor and map. To complete the course, they had to locate six points within six hours.
