Iraqis wait their turn to receive shovels at one of several humanitarian assistance sites in Fallujah, Iraq, Jan. 10, 2005. More than 140,000 Fallujans have returned to the city, which was badly damaged during November?s battle between U.S. and Iraqi forces with insurgents. The Interim Iraqi Government, assisted by U.S. Marines from the 1st Force Service Support Group, have operated the HA sites for more than a month now, providing residents food, water, blankets, and monetary payments. As of Jan.14, all 18 of Fallujah?s districts were open to residents. In coming days, the Marines will turn the HA sites over to the Interim Iraqi Government for operation.
