Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James Conway (right) speaks to Capt. James Shelstad, company commander for 1st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), about the various improvised explosive devices used by insurgents against coalition forces. During the tour, Conway and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Carlton Kent were able to witness the various ways EOD techs counter the IED threat; one EOD tech demonstrated diffusing a notional IED buried under layers of dirt and rocks.
