The blast from an improvised explosive device is seen after Marines with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment secured the site and coordinated a controlled detonation, Dec. 16. The IED was discovered by Cpl. Chad M. Kozar, a combat engineer with Engineer Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 3, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward) prior to conducting roadway repairs near Combat Outpost Rankle, Afghanistan.
