On 8 October 2020, the Commanding General of 1st Marine Logistics Group relieved Capt. Howard Van Ness, Dental Corps, United States Navy, the Commanding Officer of 1st Dental Battalion. Brigadier General Bobbi Shea relieved Van Ness due to a loss of trust and confidence in his abilities to fulfill his assigned duties.

Captain Sherry Caraveo, the Executive Officer of 1st Dental Battalion, has assumed interim duties as the Commanding Officer.
