Marines with 1st Marine Logistics Group received personal and unit awards during a ceremony at the 1st MLG Headquarters Building on Camp Pendleton, California, Aug. 25, 2020.

Staff Sgt. Andrew Collins Jr., an expeditionary contractor with Expeditionary Contracting Platoon, 1st MLG, earned the Deputy Commandant for Installations & Logistics Fiscal Year 2019 Acquisition Award for Expeditionary Contracting Professional of the Year.

Collins contracted more than $1 million in resources in an expeditious fashion increasing the readiness, capabilities and cost savings of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Central Command - Crisis Response.

1st MLG Expeditionary Contracting Platoon also earned the Expeditionary Contracting Professionals Team of the Year Award for their part in supporting Marine Corps operations in the U. S. Central Command Area of Operations.

Sergeants Erika Vargas and Arianna Figueroa, both with Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st MLG, won the Commanding General Marine Corps Installations West’s second quarter, Fiscal Year 2020 Culinary Team of Quarter competition.

The two-day event is a team-based cooking competition designed to boost morale, promote teamwork, and recognize safe and excellent mess operations and food preparation, according to Patrick T. Grosso, director of food services for MCI WEST – Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

“They are the mission essential Marines of the MLG, and not mission essential like these are the most important Marines, because all the Marines and Sailors of 1st MLG are important, but because just like our Nation’s new lexicon of mission essential, these are the Marines and Sailors that make it happen day after day. Never craving the lime light, never looking to be the center of attention” said Brig. Gen. Bobbi Shea.
