Proa returned home along with about 80 other 1st MLG Marines and sailors following a seven-month deployment to Iraq. Approximately 10,000 service members with the I Marine Expeditionary Force are scheduled to return to Camp Pendleton by spring 2009.

Cpl. Venancio Proa, a vehicle mechanic with Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Marine Logistics Group, greets his daughter Serenity while his wife, Elizabeth, watches during a homecoming ceremony at Camp Pendleton, Jan. 25. Proa returned home along with eighty Marines and sailors following a seven month deployment to Iraq including a group who served a 13 month tour. During the deployment, 1st MLG provided support to the combat elements while engaging in humanitarian and infrastructure building operations. "It feels great to be home and see my wife and children after a 7-month deployment being away from them, said Proa, 23, a Corpus Christi, Texas, native.
