CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan -- Lance Cpl. Trevor D. McNally, water support technician for 9th ESB, 1st MLG (FWD), was awarded the medal by Brig. Gen. Charles L. Hudson, 1st MLG (FWD) commanding general.
McNally, 20, from Hinckley, Minn., proved himself as an outstanding Marine by being selected as the I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) Marine of the Quarter for the third quarter of calendar year 2010.
“McNally is a squared away Marine,” said Cpl. Joshua D. Retherford, hazardous materials tool room clerk with 9th ESB, 1st MLG (FWD), who has worked with McNally since December. “He knows his job really well and he’s ready to be a corporal.”
As a lance corporal, McNally completed 37 Marine Corps Institute courses, earned two rifle expert qualifications and a perfect score of 300 on the Physical Fitness Test and a 297 on the Combat Fitness Test.
“I feel honored to receive it,” McNally said upon receiving the NAM. “It’s definitely not anything I expected to happen so soon in my career. It’s one of the proudest moments of my life.”
According to Retherford, McNally is very dependable and one of the best Marines under his charge.
“He’s out there supporting the Marines,” said Retherford. “As a lance corporal, he’s in charge of one of the water sites supporting one of the [forward operating bases].”
For McNally, being deployed to Afghanistan allows him to do his job supporting war-fighters conducting counterinsurgency operations.
“I love doing my job out here,” said McNally. “The accomplishment you make through your work progress, you can see direct results of the things you do. People are happy because they have clean water, showers and clean laundry. It makes me happy knowing that I’ve made their deployment better.”
Fellow Marines know they can always count on McNally to get the job done.
“He definitely deserves it,” said Retherford. “He’s a good Marine and is always taking the initiative. He’s one of those Marines that you can give him a task and you don’t have to double check because you know that he’ll complete it.”
