Lieutenant Colonel Thompson was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May of 1996 upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy. 

Following completion of the Basic School and Motor Transportation Officers Course in August of 1997, he reported to 3d Transportation Support Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan for service as a Motor Transportation Platoon Commander.  From 1998 to 1999, LtCol Thompson served as the Motor Transportation Detachment OIC and Assistant Operations Officer of MEU Service Support Group 31where he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to the CENTCOM AOR for Operations Desert Fox and Anvil II.   

Following a tour at Headquarters Marine Corps as a Unit Head in the Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments Branch from 1999 to 2002, LtCol Thompson transferred to 3d Marine Division for service at Headquarters Battalion, Camp Fuji, Japan.  From 2002 to 2005, he held the billets of Camp S-4, Headquarters Company Commander, Battalion Executive Officer, and Deputy Camp Commander.
 
Upon graduation from Expeditionary Warfare School in 2006, LtCol Thompson transferred to Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3d MAW for service as the Group Logistics Officer / S-4.  In July 2006, he joined MAG-16 Forward in Al Asad, Iraq where the Group was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).  LtCol Thompson returned to Iraq with MAG-16 for a second OIF deployment from 2007 to 2008.  In 2009, he transferred to Quantico to attend Marine Corps Command and Staff.

In 2010, LtCol Thompson reported to Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia, for duty as a Deployment Officer in the Joint Deployment and Distribution branch.  In 2011, he transferred to the Joint Chiefs of Staff J-31 where he served as a Deputy Branch Chief in the Global Force Management Policy and Technology Branch.

In 2013, LtCol Thompson reported to 3d Marine Logistics Group in Okinawa, Japan, where he served as Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff (AC/S) G-4 and Deputy AC/S G-3 until 2015.  He was reassigned to Combat Logistics Regiment in 2015 where he performed the duties of Regimental Executive Officer until 2017.

LtCol Thompson will assume command of Combat Logistics Battalion One on 1 June, 2017.  His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/star, and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

 LtCol Thompson is married to the former Mayumi Maruyama and they have been blessed with two daughters.
