Lieutenant Colonel M.D. Woods Commanding Officer, 1st Transportation Battalion

Lieutenant Colonel Woods is a native of Cypress, Texas. He attended Prairie View A&M University and graduated with Bachelor of Arts. He received his commission through the NROTC program in May of 2000.

Following The Basic School and Logistics Officers Course, Lieutenant Colonel Woods was assigned to 3d Battalion, 2nd Marines. He was assigned to 3/2 from April of 2001-July 2004.  He served as the Motor Transport Officer and subsequently the Assistant Logistics Officer for the Battalion.  He deployed with 3/2 as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) and for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM I.  In July 2004 he received orders to Second Transportation Support Battalion.  He served as Company Executive Officer, Company C, Company Commander, and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer.  He deployed with Company C in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

In 2006 he attended Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS).  Following graduation from EWS in May 2007, he was assigned to The Basic School, where he served from 2007-2010, serving as a warfighting instructor, Staff Platoon Commander, S-4A, and Company Commander.

In June of 2010 he received orders to 3d Marine Logistics Group, where he served from 2010-2013.  His initial assignment was as the G-3 Current Operations Officer, and he later served as Operations Officer at Combat Logistics Battalion 4 (CLB-4), and Executive Officer at 9th Engineer Support Battalion.  He deployed with CLB-4 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  In 2013 he was selected for Marine Corps Command and Staff College and graduated in June of 2014.

After Command and Staff College, LtCol Woods was assigned to United States Southern Command from 2014-2017.  He served in the Joint Logistics Operations Center as Marine Special Assistant to the Commander USSOUTHCOM, and Logistic Planner, J4 Plans section.
He reported to 1st Marine Division in July of 2017 for service as the Deputy AC/S G-4.  He took command of 1st Transportation Support Battalion on 1 June 2018. 

He is married to the former CJ Perry of Woodland, North Carolina.
