Major Cook is an Engineer Officer from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Major Cook enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 1995 as a Machinegunner. He served with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, and Headquarters Company, 5th Marine Regiment, in various billets including Machinegun Section Leader, Scout Swimmer, and Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival. He deployed twice with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). In 2000, he was selected for the Meritorious Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) and attended Texas A&M University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, and was commissioned in May of 2004.
Major Cook’s first operational assignment was with 2d Combat Engineer Battalion in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, from 2006 to 2010. In 2007, Major Cook deployed as the 2d Marine Expeditionary Force G-3 Counter-IED Cell Watch Officer in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In 2008, he deployed as the Engineer Platoon Commander for Battalion Landing Team 2/6, 26th MEU. Major Cook took command of Mobility Assault Company in 2009 and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In 2010, Major Cook attended the U.S. Army’s Engineer Captains’ Career Course in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri.
Upon completion of the Career Course, he was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 (MWSS-274) in Cherry Point, North Carolina. While assigned to MWSS-274, he served as Engineer Company Commander. Concurrently, he deployed to MARFORSOUTH as the Engineer Detachment Commander for Special Purpose MAGTF Southern Partnership Station 2012 in support of the host nation forces of Colombia, Honduras, and Guatemala. In 2012, he deployed with Marine Aircraft Group-40 to Kuwait and Bahrain as the MWSS Detachment Commander where he was responsible for essential airfield services, such as fuel, firefighting, engineering, and infrastructure maintenance and repair.
In 2014, Major Cook was promoted to his current rank and attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College (CSC). Following CSC, Major Cook was assigned to Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa as the G-4 Engineering Branch Head. In 2018, Major Cook reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 15 where he currently serves as the Battalion Executive Officer.
Major Cook holds a Master of Science in Engineering Project Management from the University of Missouri, and has attended the Joint Engineering Operations Course, Joint Humanitarian Operations Course, and the United Nations’ Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination Course. Major Cook’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “V” and two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with two bronze stars, and various unit and campaign awards.
Major Cook is married to Jamie Cook of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He has two children, Thomas and Rachel.
