Sergeant Major, 1st Transportation Support Battalion
Sergeant Major O. X. Gomez

Sergeant Major Gomez enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended boot camp at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina on August 18, 1997.  Following boot camp, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, where he earned a meritorious promotion to Private First Class. PFC Gomez then attended Supply School in Camp Johnson, North Carolina.

After graduating from Supply School in March 1998, PFC Gomez was transferred to 3rd Supply Battalion, 3rd FSSG, Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan.  He was assigned to the SASSY management unit as a supply clerk and earned Marine of the Quarter and a meritorious promotion to Lance Corporal.  Lance Corporal Gomez then served as the intermediate maintenance activity NCOIC and in March 1999 was meritoriously promoted to Corporal.  In April 1999 Corporal Gomez received orders and was transferred to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

He was assigned to Reparable Issue Point (RIP) platoon, 2nd Supply Bn, 2nd FSSG where he attended the consolidated Corporal’s Leadership Course and achieved honor graduate.  While with 2nd FSSG, he served as the Ammunition Supply Point Corporal of the Guard, was TAD to CSSD27 to serve as the RIP Supply NCOIC for a double CAX at 29 Palms, California.  Upon his return from CAX in February 2000, Corporal Gomez was transferred to 2nd Maintenance Bn to serve once again with the RIP.  While at Maint Bn, Cpl Gomez held the billets of the CLD NCOIC, Supply NCOIC and Platoon Sergeant of the RIP platoon.  During this time Cpl Gomez was also selected as the NCO of the quarter for 2nd FSSG and earned a meritorious promotion to Sergeant.  In September 2000, Sergeant Gomez was selected to become a Cpl’s Course Instructor and was transferred to Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, NC where he would serve as an Instructor for 9 months. 

In September 2001, Sgt Gomez was transferred to San Diego California to attend Drill Instructor school.  Following his graduation from DI school, Sgt Gomez was assigned to Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit training Bn where he served for eight cycles as Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Series Gunnery Sergeant.  Sergeant Gomez also served as Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor for the Medical Rehabilitation Plt in the Special Training Company, Support Bn.  During his time in MCRD San Diego, he received two Dan Daly awards, two Honor Platoons, was selected as the Regimental Drill Instructor of the quarter and broke the Regimental Drill record for Unit Leader and Platoon.  Sergeant Gomez was also promoted to Staff Sergeant on October 2004.

In February 2005, Staff Sergeant Gomez received orders and was transferred to 2nd Combat Engineer Bn (CEB), 2nd MarDiv where he served as Supply Chief.  During this tour, he attended the Supply Chief course at Camp Johnson where he graduated top of the Class, and ran 3 Bn Cpl’s courses as the SNCOIC.  SSgt Gomez requested PCA orders to an infantry unit and was transferred to 3rd Bn, 2nd Marines in May 2006 to serve as Supply Chief.

Upon his arrival at 3rd Bn, 2nd Marines, Staff Sergeant Gomez deployed to Iraq as the Bn Supply Chief.  While in Iraq, Staff Sergeant Gomez had the opportunity to apply for AMOI duty and was selected to become a Sergeant Instructor at Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia.  After his return from deployment in February 2007, Staff Sergeant Gomez executed orders to OCS where he served as Sgt Instructor, Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant.  He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in April 2008.

On August of 2010 and upon the completion of a successful tour as an OCS Instructor, GySgt Gomez was transferred to MCAS Miramar, San Diego, California to serve as the Supply Chief for Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38.  In May of 2011 GySgt Gomez was selected to serve as the Director of the MCAS Miramar’s Corporal’s Course.  In February 2012, GySgt Gomez was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and was transferred to 1st Bn, 1st Marines in where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Charlie Company and H&S Company.                 

In Feb 2013, First Sergeant Gomez received orders to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Truck Company Alpha and Headquarters Company.  He then received orders to MCRD San Diego in May 2014 and was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego.  First Sergeant Gomez transferred to Instructional Training Company, Support Battalion in September 2015 where he served as the Instructional Training Company First Sergeant and Support Battalion Sergeant Major.  In November 2016, after being selected to the rank of Sergeant Major, he received orders to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3 to serve as Squadron SgtMaj.  In February 2018, Sergeant Major Gomez was transferred to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 268 and deployed to Marine Rotational Forces-Darwin, Australia as the Air Combat Element Sergeant Major.

In January 2020, Sergeant Major Gomez received orders to 1st Transportation Support Battalion where he is currently serving as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Gomez’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal with one silver star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
