Lieutenant Colonel Mills

Born and raised in Southeast Tennessee; LtCol Mills attended The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and completed Officer Candidate School via the Platoon Leaders Course in 2004. Upon graduation in December 2004, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He reported to The Basic School (TBS) in 2005 and was designated as a Logistics Officer.

Following TBS, he attended the Logistics Officer Basic Course and then reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 (MWSS 271), 2d Marine Aircraft Wing from 2006 to 2009 where he served as Logistics Officer, Headquarters Company Commander and Assistant Operations Officer. From 2007 to 2008, he deployed twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Once as the Headquarters Company Commander and Logistics Officer to Al-Asad Air Base, Iraq and then again as an Advisor with Military Transition Team 321 to COP Manion, Iraq. After his return he served as the Assistant Operations Officer until his departure in March 2009.

Following MWSS 271, he was selected to serve at the Oldest Post of the Corps, Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., from 2009 to 2011. Following his tour at 8th and I, he was assigned as the Battalion Logistics Officer for 3d Battalion, 8th Marines (3/8) from 2011 to 2014.  During this tour, he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and to Sigonella, Italy in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response - Africa (SPMAGTF CR-AF) 14.2.

From 2014 to 2016, he was selected to serve as the Secretary of the Navy’s White House Liaison, where he worked closely with the White House Military Office, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Staff, and the Navy and Marine Corps Offices of Legislative Affairs.   

From 2016 to 2017, he attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College (CSC) at the United States Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia where he obtained a Master’s Degree of Military Science.

Upon graduation from CSC, he was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 2 in July 2017, where he served as the Operations Officer. When the Regiment was designated as the Command Element for SPMAGTF CR-AF 18.2 in 2008, LtCol Mills deployed to Moron, Spain as the MAGTF Logistics Officer.  Upon his return, he was assigned as the Executive Officer, Combat Logistics Battalion 8 (CLB 8) until July 2020.  After completing his tour with CLB 8, LtCol Mills was assigned to Quantico, Virginia where he served as the Deputy Director, Wargaming Division with the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory/Futures Directorate.  

LtCol Mills’ personal awards include Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Gold Stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 Gold Star, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 1 Gold Star. He holds a Master’s Degree in Military Science from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and a Master of Business Administration from Syracuse University.
